Most people think, as I initially feel, street photography is easy to do. However, the truth I found after two weeks’ shot shows that it is difficult to complete a photo without any arrangement or composition. Compare to those photos using traditional photographic technique, the quality of street photography might be a little bit low because of blurry, color imbalance etc. In fact, those “low quality” is what the street photography values at.
I can’t say where I should exactly go or what I should shot for if I want to do street photography. All street photos I got are taken by either coincidence or after long-time waiting. So the most photographic techniques I used are snapshot and shot without people’s notice. Another way I did street photography, especially when I shot for people, is that I would do pre-vision first, which means I would compose a situation first, and wait for my subject moving to the place that I had reserved for him at the beginning. All in all, I think the luck and occasion are really important for a person who wants to do street photography.
For my project, the most successful part is the one of two old people. They were sitting in their yard, and the old woman is helping his husband cutting his nails. Because the place was in their yard, so what they did was very natural. I shot this photo by standing outside of their door, so the whole image leaves us a feeling like you are peeking at something. Also, the color of this photo is very yellow, which let us feel warm and think even they are old, but they still lead a happy life, and their love will last forever.
